At CGull Cinema Productions, we have had the privilege of serving many couples in the greater Tulsa area by capturing their weddings on video and creating personalized wedding films for each couple. The Wedding of Miguel & Kyley is a film that stands out as one that truly showcases CGull Cinema’s unique look and cinematic style of wedding films.
Our goal for every wedding film we create is to capture every bride and groom in their most natural state on the day of their wedding. This usually means taking a more “fly-on-the-wall approach” to filming (unless a situation calls for specific stagings to capture a shot the couple would like). This also means that knowing the breakdown of the schedule and being in the right place at the right time is a must. This wedding was extremely memorable to me because Miguel and Kyley were naturally photogenic while being enamored with each other the whole day. They were extremely comfortable (despite any wedding jitters) which made it easy for me to capture them together. The venue they chose, The Willow Creek Mansion in Broken Arrow, OK also aided the beauty of the day, and it suited them perfectly.
The pre-production process is pretty standard for each of our weddings, and it usually starts with a phone call or Zoom call with the bride, groom or both. I use our first call as a “get to know you” call where we learn the bride and groom’s story of how they came to be where they are today. From there we learn what the bride and groom’s vision is and what they hope for their video to look and feel like. Fast-forward to the wedding day, I arrive at the venue and load in all of our camera equipment. I then take a few minutes to scout the location as well as find the people in charge of the day who can point me to where the bride and groom are hidden away. Having the time to do this initial location scout is a must because many venues are very intricate so having a good lay of the land helps me know where I need to go quickly so I don’t miss any moments being captured. I have learned that it helps to have my equipment pre-set up before my arrival as much as possible to allow me time to do the location scout before I jump in and start filming. As mentioned before, filming at this specific venue, The Willow Creek Mansion is one of the highlights of this day because this venue added to the filmic look and feel that I create in all of my wedding films and made it that much easier to achieve that look in the final product just because of the quality of the venue.
For all of our weddings, I use a Blackmagic Pocket 4k paired with a Dzofilm 24-70 parfocal lens and a pro-mist filter to produce a soft, creamy image that blooms the highlights. The pro-mist filter aids the soft dreamy look and feel that is our signature. I also use a Zhiyun crane 3s throughout the day to capture steady shots. In every wedding, having a drone is a must, but since this specific venue is located in more of a residential area, there was not much room to utilize the classic drone shots that show a large landscape. Instead, I planned a more subtle drone movement that mimicked the kind of crane shot one could find in a big-budget movie. This specific shot became my favorite from the whole day and was the shot that I decided to open on in the final product.
Like any production, we faced our share of challenges. One of the biggest hurdles was a power outage on the wedding day, but while that was being fixed, we switched up the schedule a bit to get shots outside the venue that did not require any lighting. I faced another hurdle in the post-production/delivery process when I sent off the final video to receive the feedback that the client would like it to be longer, but I had created what I saw as a perfect story for them specifically. Of course, my client’s satisfaction is always my guarantee so I went back to the drawing board and incorporated their desires while still keeping the bones of my story structure the same. This resulted in a final product that all the parties involved loved.
The final product was a cinematic masterpiece that I would describe as my most memorable and favorite wedding video. It ended up receiving the most praise from a client and their families and friends than any wedding video I have done in the past. It is truly something to be proud of.
Our client, Kyley, had this to say about working with us: “Caleb is truly everything you'd want in a wedding videographer!! He was so kind, efficient, and completely present on our big day. Many of our other vendors commented on how lovely he was to work with! The videos he delivered to us are absolutely magical, like something out of a movie - I could not have asked for a better way to remember our day. My husband and I cried like babies when he delivered our social media reel a week after our wedding. His turnaround time was a month earlier than expected, and we had all of our videos back within 2 months out. I cannot thank Caleb enough for all that he gave to us as our videographer. I cannot recommend him enough!!!!” We take pride in our ability to bring our clients’ visions to life and help them achieve their goals through cinematic storytelling.
This wedding film was a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate our skills and abilities in the power of storytelling and how stories capture the hearts of people.
